The Day Has Come: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

For you Whedonites out there, I just thought I'd remind you that the first part of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along blog is now live.

This probably isn't a big surprise for those of you who have been reading the blog for a while, as I've been geeking out about it for a while.

A couple months ago might remember me talking with Felica Day. She's Penny, the female lead. On the offhand chance that you weren't reading a couple months ago, and you're interested, here's a link to the interview I gave her. And, contrariwise, here's a link to the interview she gave me.

If nothing else, they will give you something to read while you're waiting for Dr. Horrible's page to load. I'm guessing it's going to get hit pretty hard today.....

P.S. By the way, let's keep the comments section spoiler free, shall we? Not everyone will be able to watch it right and nobody likes having the good bits given away before they've had a chance to watch something themselves.

While I understand the desire to talk about the awesomeness of something like this, we must restrain ourselves. Sublimate the urge to say something along the lines of, "That was so cool when he blew up the sun and died at the end." Instead, say something gushy and loving about the show itself. Extra points given for odd-but-appropriate comparisons. For example: "That was so cool that I feel like I just got to hug a kitten and eat an entire ice-cream sundae."

Remember folks, people who give away spoilers go to the special hell: one reserved for child molesters and people who speak in the theatre.

Oh, the humanity! It won't load and I have to leave for work soon! Why, why?!?!

Anyway, what is with you and the unnatural hours? Are you getting up in a corporate fashion or are you staying up for the sunrise?

I quite enjoyed the first episode!

So, since we can't present any spoilers, I'd like to ask Pat a question since I just reread NotW on Sunday. What is the basis of the languages that you created in the book? I can't seem to find any discussion of it any where.

The first part of Dr. Horrible was so incredibly awesome. It was almost exactly like chugging 3 Red Bulls and watching a Bob Ross marathon.

No, it was like chugging absinthe and watching the Miss Universe contest.

No, no, no. It was like going to Disneyland for the first time having a twenty minute orgasm.

Yeah, that's about it.

Only more so.

I especially loved the part where it was revealed that Dr. Horrible and the hero are the same person. I mean, wow.

I watched it at lunch time so here goes the love fountain.... I loved it more than putting on a jumper left on the radiator on a cold morning. I loved it more than a cold breeze from the fridge on a warm day. I loved it more than a getting home early from work, grabbing a book and going for a half hour shit. I loved it more than a Saturday night I can't remember. I loved it more than sex with Danish twins. I loved it more than the feeling you get when you finally let go of that pee you've been holding in all day. I loved it more than custard between my toes.
Great songs. Great action. Great acting. Great directing great humour. Great, great, great!!!

I have been highly anticipating this event, and I was beginning to wonder if I had set my expectations a bit too high. But then I watched it last night, mulitple times, loved it, and blogged about it.

It was like...uh...um...(c'mon think man, think!)... uhhn....

I got about three minutes in before I was requested to stop and wait until lunch so that Lisa (who possesses the first galley you ever signed here) and I could watch it together.

Bases on those three minutes and Joss' long standing track record, I'm gonna give it Five Sleestaks out of Five Chakkahs.

You can get all three episodes on Itunes for 3.99 (the two will automatically dl after their arrival thursday and sat) -- I think that's when they will be released.

If you haven't had any luck getting on the website, wish to support the Wheadon; this might be your best bet.

Just sayin.

Hmmmm. I have to say, I wassurprised that child molesters and people who talk in the theatre went to the same level of Hell. This actually makes a bizarre sense however, the more I think about it.

Ah... I miss Mal so much. Even if they won't bring back Firefly, maybe they could like, have a Mal talkshow or something. I'd watch.

As for the episode, I spent the $1.99 on iTunes and downloaded it instead of waiting for the freebie site. I love Joss, and Nathan Fillion, and Felicia... Oh Felicia. They should have more stuff with her in it.

Act 1 was awesome like... like... a 30 minute orgasm and a super-size fry (stolen from PAT!)

It was like taking three Tylenol PMs and trying to jerk it before falling asleep - either way you win! (Stolen from 40 year old Virgin).

I have nothing original. (Stolen from my friend Jeremy!)

Ah. I loved that so much! That was like eating a kitten and hugging an entire ice cream sundae!

I mean ... erm ...

It's as though someone found the seven words to make a person love you, and slyly incorporated them into the dialog!

Watching an episode of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is roughly equivalent to falling down a million-mile cliff while wearing a chicken suit and reciting impromptu poetry featuring words of at least seven syllables each, followed by landing in a sea of marshmallows being melted by your own pyromancy (which you only discovered you could use after watching Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog) and then publishing four books whose first initials spelled out 'ROFLE!!!!' including all four exclamation marks!

July 15, 2008 9:14 PM
Blogger Summer said...

... In which the 'E' in 'ROFLE!!!!' stands for 'Exceedingly Entertaining Ecstasy', and is definitely not a typo. Nope.

it's amazing. wonderful and everything that I was hoping for.

I can;t wait for the rest

Dr. Horrible was very enjoyable.

Pat does take the whole spoiler thing quite seriously. I have seen him spit on and curse out, with language that would make a salior uncomfortable, those who have spoiled film and tv shows.

Yep, it is safe to say Pat dose not like spoilers.

That was sooo good. It was like pulling on a pair of warm mittens in winter and snuggling down into a nest of soft pillows, covers, and fleeces draped over fluffy couches... A couch nest. With frothy hot chocolate and a favourite book, whilst wood elves braid my sun-drenched locks.

Oh my. Bring on part deux!

I had a pigtailed fangirl orgasm! Oh my gods! That was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

It was like going down the last big hill on a log ride on a hot summer day and getting splashed by refreshing cool water while sandwiched between Angel and Spike who are wearing thin white t-shirts. They then laugh and lean in towards my warmth, drawn even closer by the irresistible pull of my racing heart beat.... Hmmm, I suppose it will have to be night, not day, considering, you know, they're vampires.

Having never read a blog or posted a reply, I screwed this up lost the first post and had to retype it over. Sigh. Anyway, it just goes to show you how much I must have really liked your book to go thru this hassle to tell you. I've never felt compelled to tell an author how much I liked their stuff until I read The Name of the Wind. And thanks for including the interview in your blog as it made me like the book even more, if that is possible. It was good to see the thinking and personality behind the writing. You are a charming fellow. I'm from MN so can relate to your "cold" stories. I can't wait for my brother to read it too. Thanks for writing the story. Any idea when the second book will be out?

@ Carly: The best part about living here in MN is that it is so close to where Pat lives that we can easily drive a few hours and get to meet him in person!

I did, and, he is just as cool to talk to in person as you think.

Let me clarify, I didn't go meet him in a stalkery way I waited until he had a book signing. He has a lot of those near where he lives. Don't show up on his doorstep, not cool.

Uh, we, um, apparently need to be careful about what we say here on this blog because, um, it seems that there are certain people who also are readers here...

Act II was just as funny as expected. I was loving it all. Couldn't wait to hit play again at the end. The music is so much fun a very memorable. I have the bad horse theme stuck in my head. There was only one thing that didn't rate 50 stars out of 10. If you're interested in my opinion on that you can check out my blog entry on the subject by clicking through my ID to my blog.

I have watched it multiple times since it was released, and listened many, many more. I have most of the songs memorized. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Pat, for posting it!

It was better than.. well, I can't even think of the proper words to describe it's awesomeness. And it's finally pushed me to get off my lazy butt and watch the Firefly DVDs. Although I'm not sure how seriously I'll be able to take Captain Malcolm..

Anyway, I just wanted to thank Pat for all the awesomeness he's brought to my life...first NoTW of course, and Sinfest, and the Guild, and now Dr. Horrible...so many wonderful ways to waste time at work...my undying appreciation.

I just got to thinking, and realized that it's easy to say something like "undying appreciation", but really, what does that get a person? Pat, if you're ever in the Bellingham, WA area, I would so treat you to a round of mini-golf at Castle Fun Park. I'll even let you choose between the Jungle and Undersea course. :)

Y'know, I was all getting ready to post up a big "I'm so proud of y'all for keeping the comments spoiler-free" sort of comment. But no, someone has to come in and ruin it.

Here's a hint, when your comment includes the words, "is that a spoiler?" that means it's a spoiler.

Also, if your comment talks about the ending of the final episode, it's a spoiler.

This public service announcement brought to you by Pat Rothfuss.

Thank you for posting about Dr. Horrible's sing-along blog. My husband and I are huge Firefly fans so it was great to see Nathan Fillian. People in MN and WI are pretty nice and wouldn't ever think of stepping on toes by butting into private lives without an invitation. I would love to go to a signing tho and have my book signed and meet Pat that way. My brother who I mentioned goes to a river property by Silversmith somewhere. I would be upset if he met him first and I was the one who suggested he read the book. I am confused about most of the stuff written on this blog probably because I know nothing about blogs. Can someone tell me where I can find info about when the next book might come out? I will have to read the first one again, naturally, before starting the second adventure. And I liked Eragon and Eldest. Tolkein..well I barely got thru reading the Hobbit but loved the movies.

Well.. I didn't understand what Dr. Horrible was. I told my brother that Pat had written a cartoon-like movie that was named Dr. Who or something. Then when I came back here to see if anyone had an idea about Pat's second book, I started looking into what Dr. Horrible was and of course it is July 23 now and I can't see any of the movie anymore because they say it would disappear after July 20. Damn. What are the odds. It looked so good too.

Pat, I have not been here for a long time and came to check on info about book 2. I see that you mentioned comments have been turned off so I am just experimenting to see if you get this. I was so intrigued with some of the stuff you were talking about in your blog writing that I went back and started to read all of them from the beginning. I am up to Sept 2007. I just read about your Mom and my heart cried for you..my Mom passed away on June 4th 2009. I miss her dearly. She promised me that she would come back to me and let me know what heaven is like. I am still waiting to see her. I keep seeing angels in cloud formations and think that may be a sign. The dog is farting up a storm as I type this. So if I mistype is it because my eyes are watering. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I love your first book, can't wait for the second (I look everytime I go to Barnes and Noble) and I am truely enjoying reading about your trials and tribulations. I have not been so entertained for a long while. I especially enjoyed the cartoons about the emails people send regarding the release of the second book. I had tears rolling down my face I laughed so hard. You are a funny, sensitive and talented guy. Thanks. Signed Carly from the distant planet of Fargo ND.
