New Podcast - Writing Excuses.

When I was out at worldcon this year, I got to meet up with Brandon Sanderson.

This was pretty cool for me, because I've really enjoyed his books so far. Most notably the Mistborn series. Though Elantris was really good as well.

I've recommended his books on the blog before, so I won't go all gushy again. But I have to say, his stuff is really good. Irritatingly good. Plus he writes really fast, which is nice as a reader because he has more books out. But irritating as a writer, because it makes people like me look bad.

Anyway, he does a writing podcast with a few co-conspirators, and they asked me if I wanted to be their guest for an episode and talk about exposition and stuff.

So I did.

Here's the link, if you're interested.

it's so interesting to hear how you get me [the reader] to be curious and get engaged in the story and i don't even realize it. very sneaky. and i never noticed how you do the short descriptions of characters, but i feel like i would know them all if i met them on the street...

An interesting bunch of people... Not to mention the information they passed along... Obviously, they don't consider you an amateur, even though this is your first published novel. :-) (Those years of polishing really do pay off...)

BTW, I could have sworn he almost asked you for any farting comments at the end...

Crazy. I like Sanderson's and your work. I'm eagerly waiting The "Hero of Ages" and "The Wise Man's Fear". Reading Elom in the time between. Need to find another book to help me wait. Any suggestions?

I love it when my favorite authors team up. It's like when superheros join forces....

I was flipping through a magazine and saw a really neat mention of the book. In the november 08 issue of playstation magazine, The Name of the Wind made their top 10 list!

Am reading yr book now -- I like it, but I doubt either Kvothe or Chronicler would commit so many solecisms to the page -- "two minute's worth" rather than "two minutes' worth"; "one of those people who knows" rather than "one of people who know"; & several more errors of punctuation & subject/verb agreement. I hope you're assigned a better copy editor next time if you can't find time to bone up with a style manual.

Brandon Sanderson added to the Amazon wish list.

I bought a new bookcase at the weekend and the first book to be placed on it was......Tad Williams. Memory, sorrow and thorn.
Sorry Pat. I couldn't get the glass case in the shrine opened to put TNOTW in the book case. ;-)
